Faith is something many people say they have, but it’s also something many say they lack, or feel they don’t have enough of. Certain life experiences, particularly the challenges we face, can make our faith feel like it’s hit a hard spot—like a "rocky period." Heartbreak, tough breakups, feeling overwhelmed at work, and life simply feeling unfair can make it seem like our faith is wavering.
But let’s take a step back… what exactly do we mean by "faith"?
Faith is often associated with spirituality—something beyond the physical, something intangible. It’s a belief that helps people stay afloat, even during turbulent times. Faith is the confidence that there is something greater than what we see and experience in this world. It’s the belief in a higher power that holds ultimate control, balance, and purpose in life.
Within Christianity, faith is the belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit—together known as the Holy Trinity. It’s not only about believing in the existence of God but also trusting in everything He has revealed in the Bible. Faith involves trusting God in both good and bad times, adhering to His commandments, and placing Him above all else—before our desires, worries, and concerns.
Nurturing your faith can elevate your life, guiding you to a better place as you navigate this physical realm. Of course, this world is not heaven. No matter how blessed someone’s life may seem, hardships and struggles occur every single day. The Bible makes it clear that we will face trials and tribulations. Don’t be deceived or misled into thinking life will always be easy. Similarly, don’t be misled into thinking that any burden or struggle you face in this world is greater than God. To us, in our limited human minds, obstacles can feel overwhelming. But when we feel that way, it’s often because our faith isn’t being fully exercised. The challenge may seem bigger than our faith, but it will never be bigger than God.
As I close, my advice is this: prioritize growing your faith in God. The more you nurture it, the more other essential areas of your life will grow—your wisdom, discernment, and ability to face the challenges that life inevitably brings. While hard times are guaranteed, so is the hope that Jesus Christ gave us when He died for our sins. Because of His sacrifice, humanity has the hope of salvation in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
What will you do with the offer He made with His blood? Make the choice that is not only best for your life but for your eternity.
